Strategies for engaging students with Mathematics Learning Support (MLS) during the coming academic year
At IMLSN Workshop 13, in June 2022, the issue of poor student engagement with MLS was highlighted as key by workshop attendees. In particular, useful strategies to engage non-engagers were deemed essential, especially as engagement seems to have decreased since the onset of the pandemic. In the September workshop, we want to bring together MLS tutors, coordinators and researchers from around the country to discuss the engagement issues that they would like to resolve and strategies that they hope to implement for the coming academic year.
If you would like to present or attend the workshop, please fill in this form before Friday the 26th of August 2022 at 5pm.
For presentation, we invite 5/10 minute talks covering, but not limited to: student engagement strategies that worked for you in the past, student engagement techniques you intend to try in the coming academic year, specific student engagement issues you face, etc.
The provisional schedule for the online workshop is:
09.30 - 10.30 Selection of 5/10 minute talks on engagement issues and/or strategies to address these,
10.30 - 10.40 Coffee break/Comfort break,
10.40 - 11.30 Small group discussions (Proposed that groups will discuss the key engagement issues and strategies they took from the talks and add their own perspectives/ideas). This will be followed by a whole group discussion to get an overview and then to focus on what can IMSLN do to help its members achieve the outcomes just discussed.
